Repeat Descenders Ascend to Thuli Kharka

Namaste friends, family & loved ones,

This morning, some of the Descenders flew from Khote back to Kathmandu. They are now ensconced at the Hotel Yak & Yeti and doing well. We are only slightly envious of the showers they have taken and the clean clothing we imagine that they are now wearing.

The rest of the Descenders spent the day climbing through beautiful bamboo and rhododendron forest. After about 4500 feet of gain, we reached the ridge top and then meandered for another hour or so on a “Himalayan flat” trail leading to our teahouse at Thuli Kharka.

We are perched here in a hanging valley at about 13,900 feet, just below the final high pass that we will cross tomorrow morning before descending to Lukla. It’s a beautiful spot and we’re all doing well!
