The Dec 16th team has chosen a name and we will now be known as Team Lucky Mule Shoe as a mule shoe was found at a propitious moment as we embarked on our adventure. It will now accompany us up the mountain. Each evening the burden of carrying the mule shoe will be passed along ceremoniously to a new mule shoe bearer, followed by a stirring acceptance speech:
We entered the park today and hiked to Confluencia, our first camp on the mountain at 11,200 ft. After all of the chaos of travel and packing, it always feels good to simply begin hiking!
We were served a wonderful lunch by the base camp staff upon arrival. After lunch we began learning and practicing the fine art of building sturdy rock anchors to defend our tents from the Aconcagua wind.
We are looking forward to hiking to an overlook of the South Face of Aconcagua tomorrow.
