Hello Everyone,
I apologize for not cybercasting yesterday but we had some connectivity issues. Everyone is having fun and doing well!
Yesterday we lost a lot of elevation, about 3,000ft and ended down in the cloud forest at Colpa lodge (9,400ft). It felt great to be back in the thicker air! We’ve had great weather each day and were actually fortunate to have some clouds the last couple of days which has kept the temperature cooler as we drop in elevation. The Jacuzzi at Colpa lodge had an incredible view of the surrounding mountains and river valleys below. When we arrived at Colpa we had a traditional feast for lunch including an option to try the local delacattesan, guinea pig! Most people tried it and of course we all came to the conclusion that it tastes just like chicken. After lunch we relaxed the rest of the day enjoying the lodge, some got massages, and jaquzzi.
Today we left around 8:30am and most decided to do an extra excursion to go zip lining, and a few did the normal hike for the day. We all met at Lucma lodge enjoying another comfortable lodge and afternoon relaxing and seeing the process from harvesting local coffee all the way to tasting the finished product in a cup. We are having a lot of fun and getting close to Machu Picchu! Tomorrow we will get our first glimpse of Machu Picchu in the distance from lunch. Tomorrow is also our last full day of trekking where we will end up taking the train to Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu.
What a great trek this has been so far! The lodges, staff, scenery, food, and local people have all been impressive and we are looking forward to seeing the Lost city of the Incas very soon.
Keep following along and I’ll continue trying to post photos of a great trip!
Hasta Mañana,
Ben
