After a quiet scramble up the Barranco Wall the Team relaxes at Karanga Camp with talk of summit day

Hello, this is the 8/22 Kilimanjaro climb calling in. We’re at our new camp, up here at the Karanga Camp, sort of a cool, windy, cloudy afternoon; got here pretty early, about 2 o’clock or so.

Straightforward day on the Barranco Wall, which involves a little bit of scrambling. Not that many folks this trip, same as last trip, there were some but not too many so there wasn’t that much congestion on that part of the route today. Got in here, had a nice lunch, and then we had about a 45 minute briefing on what the rest of the trip would be like, including summit day and descent from the mountain, what to wear, what to eat, what to drink, all those sorts of things; mostly repetition at this point in the trip but sort of dedicated to our summit day.

We’re just sort of relaxing in tents right now, some folks are playing cards. Later on this evening about 7 o’clock we’ll have dinner and then off to the sack. Tomorrow we head on up to our High Camp at Kosovo and then at midnight we’ll be headed for the summit, so we’ll give you a call from there. Everybody’s doing well. And yeah good group, fun to be with. That’s all for now.
