Beautiful Day in Namche

Friends, family and loved ones, Finally! The Team’s patience Really Paid Off today and we enjoyed beautiful weather on our acclimatization day in Namche. At first light, some of us walked to the viewpoint above our lodge and were rewarded with our first views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and other high peaks. We were the only ones there and had plenty of time to take photos and admire the stupendous panorama. Vern showed us the spot from which, in the late 1990s, Dr Brad Washburn measured the height of Everest using a prism installed on the summit by Vern, Pete Athans and some Sherpas working for Alpine Ascents. Cool story. After breakfast, the whole team set out for a morning hike. We spent some time at Sagarmatha Next and learned a bit about their environmental conservation efforts. After descending back to town, we had a very special private blessing ceremony by the Buddhist Lama in charge of the Namche gompa. We did our own thing in the afternoon- some of us relaxed at the Panorama Lodge and a bunch of others visited some of the museums and shops in town. We enjoyed another delicious dinner at the Panorama and are now getting ready for bed. Tomorrow we plan to trek to Khumjung, with some special stops along the way. Stay tuned, Carole and Vern
