Hey folks,
Gary here, checking in from the AAI van on our way back to Seattle (no, I’m not driving). Yesterday we completed our Snow School and left Camp Muir in so-so weather. We were in the clouds, and the wind was doing its thing, yanno, blowing.
The crew did great getting up to High Camp at Ingraham Flats. Would’ve been honored to climb to the summit with everyone, but the weather had other plans. It snowed quite a bit, the wind was blowing, and visibility sucked. We kept waiting for a weather window, but just did not get it. Bummer!
So we woke up, bounced back down to Camp Muir, and had cinnamon pancakes and coffee. The weather was clear below 10,500′, albeit a tad windy still. We decided to climb the local Muir Peak – a quick scramble with neat views of Muir, the Cowlitz Glacier, and Little Tahoma.
I’m super impressed with the attitude of the crew heading down the snowfield to Paradise. We had a great time playing in the snow and glissading. It’s definitely those little moments that make the trip – not the summit. Good luck to the next crew.
I’m off to Denali next. Look for me up there. Climb on.
G$
