Everest Expedition 2022: Rest and hiking day around Basecamp

Hello Everyone,

After breakfast this morning we went on a hike opposite from Everest on The lower flanks of Pumori. It’s a common hike that most expedition teams do because it allows access to around 1,000ft of elevation gain without needing to wear our big boots and crampons. The hike is actually all on rock and dirt. We are starting to sleep better and get use to the altitude here and getting out of camp and stretching the legs and lungs helps our acclimatization as well. Tomorrow we will have our Puja in camp, which is a Buddhist ceremony to ask the Goddess of Mt Everest for safe passage up and down on our climb. It’s a serious event but also turns into a celebration and a fun time with our whole team. After the Puja day our Sherpa crew and team will be ready to start making rounds up the mountain to stock camps and start acclimatizing higher.

Soon, we will be doing some review in the lower Khumbu icefall and getting ready for our first rotation up the mountain.

Thanks for following along,

Ben Jones
Expedition Leader
